Manchester City will be heading into the summer transfer window with a very clear intention of signing a proven striker with Pep Guardiola no longer sure of the long-term stay of club legend Sergio Agüero. Guardiola will want to bring in a striker that he can interchange with Gabriel Jesus in the City attack because he thinks Argentine striker Agüero is already getting too old and does not have a lot of playing years left in him anymore.

Their search for a striker has seen them linked with a host of top strikers across Europe, including the likes of Inter Milan forward Lautaro Martinez and Borussia Dortmund’s hot prospect Erling Haaland. Martinez almost left Inter Milan last summer but was almost headed for Barcelona before the deal fell through and he decided to stay put at Inter to help the club fight for major trophies this season.

Haaland, on the other hand, has been on fire since he joined German Bundesliga giants Dortmund and his superb form has continued this season. He has been scoring for fun in the Bundesliga and is in the running to challenge Bayern Munich forward Robert Lewandowski for the league’s top goalscorer award.

However, former City midfielder Nigel de Jong says he does not buy into the idea of City signing Haaland and that they should try and sign Tottenham star forward Harry Kane instead. Kane has been Tottenham’s leading marksman and is the club’s most important player, alongside Heung-Min Son.

De Jong said Kane is a better option because he is already a proven goalscorer and has vast experience in the Premier League as well. The English striker has scored 14 goals and has registered as many as 11 assists in just 23 games so far this season.
